Agnes Dorothy (Opitz) Stehr, age 102, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She was born April 10, 1924, at the family home near Lookeba, Oklahoma, to Rudolf and Dora Costien Opitz.
Agnes was raised in the Lookeba and Hinton area and graduated from Hinton High School. Throughout her long life, she was devoted to her family, her faith, and the simple joys that came from hard work and caring for others.
She married Ervin Stehr, and together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. Agnes worked faithfully alongside her husband on the family farm and in his carpentry business. She was never afraid of hard work and took great pride in their life together.
Agnes had a special love for the outdoors. Her flower gardens, vegetable gardens, and fruit trees brought her countless hours of enjoyment. She also loved to cook and bake, and her talents in the kitchen were well known by family and friends. For many years, Agnes attended the Jamboree in Clinton, where she would bring her famous coconut and strawberry pies for everyone to enjoy.
She was also a talented seamstress who enjoyed styling and sewing her own clothes, always wearing her creations with pride and a smile. Hand embroidery was another favorite pastime, and she made many embroidered cup towels that she lovingly gave as gifts to family and friends.
Agnes loved reminiscing and sharing stories about the “good old days.” One favorite story was about riding a horse to school on an especially cold morning. The temperature dropped so low that she actually froze to the saddle. Thankfully, relatives came to her aid and brought her inside their warm home, making for a story Agnes would continue to tell many years later.
Her independence remained with her throughout her life. Agnes continued driving until she was 100 years old. She loved getting behind the wheel, especially when it meant taking a drive to the family farm and watching the land change from season to season. When she could no longer drive herself, her family and friends happily became her “taxi,” allowing her to continue enjoying those special drives.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolf and Dora Costien Opitz; her husband of 65 years, Ervin Stehr; three brothers, Alfred, George, and Edwin Opitz; and two sisters, Dorothy Opitz Collier and Eunice Opitz Hunter.
She is survived by her faithful son, Darrell Stehr, who lovingly helped care for his mother until she moved to Corn Heritage Village; her daughter, Bonnie Stehr Sperle and her husband, Elgin; Sydney Stehr and his wife, Theresa; and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Agnes was blessed with 102 years of life, filled with faith, family, hard work, treasured memories, and countless stories. Her love for her family and the Lord remained at the center of her life, and the many lives she touched will carry her memory forward for generations to come.
Funeral services for Agnes will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Peace Lutheran Church in Bessie, Oklahoma, with Pastor Tammy Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Lee Hometown Funeral Home.
