Funeral services for Dr. Charles Cary Nimmo, 84, of Weatherford, Oklahoma will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026, at First United Methodist Church in Clinton, Oklahoma with Rev. Diana Steiner officiating. Interment will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Bessie, Oklahoma under the direction of Lee Hometown Funeral Home.

Charles was born on January 18, 1942, in his grandmother’s farmhouse near Taloga, Oklahoma. The local doctor and his nurse came to the house to deliver him. His parents were Charles E. Nimmo and Alvenia (Boggess) Nimmo. He passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma surrounded by his family.

He spent his early years in Taloga before moving to Clinton where he attended school and graduated from Clinton High School in 1960. He went on to pursue higher education at Southwestern State College of Pharmacy in Weatherford, earning his degree in 1968. Early on in Charles’ career, he worked in several pharmacies in Oklahoma City. He decided that corporate pharmacy was not his professional path. Charles returned to Taloga for five years helping his grandmother, Nettie Boggess, farming wheat and raising cattle. During this five-year period, he worked part-time as a pharmacist. In 1976 Charles was hired full-time to operate G & A Pharmacy in Fairview, Oklahoma, and he was offered the opportunity to purchase it in 1977 which required him to move to Fairview. It was very convenient when he was able to purchase the house next door to the pharmacy and able to walk to work. After many years the responsibilities of pharmacists expanded, and additional education was added in order to receive a doctorate in pharmacy. Charles was working full-time and still wanted to earn the highest degree offered in pharmacy. He searched until he found a non-traditional way to earn his doctorate through telecommunications which was very rare at the time. It enabled him to work over 50 hours per week and study in the evenings and on weekends. In 1997 he graduated with honors from Idaho State University College of Pharmacy. Charles faithfully served the community as a pharmacist until his retirement in 2008.

On June 29, 1991, he married Dr. Linda (Reinschmiedt) Barton at the Taloga Christian Church in Taloga, OK. During the first nine years of their marriage, they maintained a long-distance relationship while Linda operated her optometry practice in Clinton. She then joined Charles in Fairview until they eventually settled in Weatherford. Linda’s oldest sister, Dr. Karen McGurk, had offered them the opportunity to purchase her home in Weatherford since she was moving to Little Rock, Arkansas to be closer to her daughter. Karen was happy when Charles and Linda agreed to take care of her dog Snuffles and her cats Sunflower, Lucy and Mom. Charles had never owned a pet of his own, so this was a new experience for him. The McGurk’s had built a freestanding house to accommodate their cats safely during the night. The cats were free to be outside during the day, and Charles enticed them into their house by bringing them food and water for the night. Eventually all four pets died of old age, but it didn’t take long until a stray kitten found her way into the now vacant house. Charles saw her inside and closed the door to keep her from running away. He ran to the house telling Linda, “I caught a cat!” She was eventually named Squeaky, and Charles was so excited to have a cat again. Within a year a second stray kitten, Emmy, joined the family. Every evening he had a special way of telling them goodnight. Linda found it to be so sweet and uncharacteristic of him to love their cats so much.

Charles had two other great loves: maintaining a perfectly manicured lawn and exercising regularly on his Concept 2 rower in his home basement. He amassed over 15 million meters over the years. Charles will always be remembered for his impeccable style of dress: heavily starched shirts, pressed slacks and the perfect shoes. He was well known for his friendly and engaging nature. He valued conversation and connection and had a genuine interest in others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-and mother-in-law, John and Lillian (Stehr) Reinschmiedt; his sister-and brother-in-law, Drs. Karen and Donald McGurk; and his nephew, Dr. John McGurk.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Dr. Linda Nimmo; his sister, Sherry Jarvis; his sister-and brother-in-law, Drs. Pam and Joe Reichert; his sister-in-law, Dr. Debbie Gudgel; his nephew, Chris Jarvis and wife Christy; and his nieces, Dr. Michelle Walton and husband William; Dr. Suzanne Burnett and husband Dr. Hugh Burnett; Jessica Hicks and husband Jared; Melissa Reichert; Jamie Johnson and husband Randy; Emily Moore and husband Adam; and Angela Penry and husband Jeremy.
