Donald Lee Meyer

October 14, 1947 — March 20, 2026

A Celebration of Life Service for Donald Lee Meyer, 78, former Clinton businessman, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 27, 2026, at the First Christian Church, officiated by Doyle Kinney, under the direction of the Lee Hometown Funeral Home.

Donald Lee Meyer was born October 14, 1947, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Arnold and Helen (Widel) Meyer, and passed away Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Permian Residential Care Center in Andrews, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family. The youngest of four children, Don grew up active and involved, participating in basketball, baseball, and choir. He graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1966 and was an outstanding baseball player, even earning an opportunity to play professionally. However, he chose instead to serve his country.

Don enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 17, 1966, where he served as a firefighter and crash specialist. His service brought him to Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base in Burns Flat, Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma, he met the love of his life, Phyllis Penner, and they were united in marriage on June 30, 1968, in Corn, Oklahoma. Just four days later, he was deployed to Vietnam in service to his country and later stationed at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He honorably served until his discharge on August 14, 1970.

Following his military service, Don made his home in Corn, Oklahoma, where he farmed alongside his father-in-law. He later owned and operated a butcher plant and the Valley Meat Market for seven years. In the mid-1980s, he moved his family to Clinton, where he owned and operated The Butcher Block and the Clinton Packing Plant. Later in life, he transitioned into the insurance industry, where he worked faithfully until his retirement on July 1, 2016.

Don was a devoted husband, proud father, involved grandfather, and incredibly proud great-grandfather. He cherished every opportunity to support his daughters and grandchildren, whether at a ball field, basketball court, or on the golf course. If there was a game or activity, you could count on Don being there—cheering and critiquing from the sidelines with pride.

A faithful and active member of the First Christian Church, Don was also an avid golfer, traveler, and devoted Christian. He loved watching the Oklahoma Sooners in any sport and rarely missed a chance to cheer them on. Even while facing health challenges, Don remained strong in spirit—always ready with a joke or a smile to brighten someone’s day.

Don will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, but his family finds comfort in knowing he is now walking the fairways of heaven—likely offering a few tips along the way to “keep your head down” and “bend your knees.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Helen Meyer, and his sister, Nancy Voy.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Meyer of 57 years of Andrews, Texas; his daughters, Tonya Taylor and husband Greg of Yukon, Oklahoma; Tricia Riley and husband Charles of Corn, Oklahoma; and Tiffaney Baker and husband David of Andrews, Texas; his brothers, Gary Meyer and wife Sheryl and Fred Meyer and wife Irma, all of Iowa.

He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Hunter Riley, Sierra Jarratt and husband Lane, Mady Taylor, and Reid Riley; his beloved great-granddaughter, Kaydence Jarratt; as well as many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
