Dorris Blanche Grimes
Dorris Blanche Grimes, affectionately known as “Sista” by her loved ones, age 77, was born September 5, 1948, in Vinita, Oklahoma, to Cecil and Marie (Miller) Kirkendoll. She passed away peacefully at her home in Frederick, Oklahoma, on March 3, 2026.
Dorris was raised in Vinita and attended Vinita Public Schools. In 1966, she moved to Clinton, Oklahoma, where she became a longtime resident and built a life surrounded by family and friends. Throughout her life, she shared many years of marriage with Ralph “Rough House” Grimes and was also married to Toy Washington and Bob Cornell.
Dorris was a devoted and loving mother to Tammy Kirkendoll, Keith “Keke” Washington, Toni Washington, Kenneth “Redman” Washington, and Kent Williams, all of Clinton.
She was known for her lively spirit and strong work ethic, working in several different industries throughout her life, including healthcare and hospitality. Dorris worked at several local restaurants, including Pop Hicks and the Branding Iron, before eventually retiring from TC’s Country Kitchen. She also spent time working as a CNA at Prairie View Nursing Home.
Outside of work, Dorris cherished spending time with her family. She loved cooking for those she cared about and enjoyed relaxing while watching her favorite true crime shows on television. Later in life, she moved to Frederick, Oklahoma, to be closer to family.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Toni Marie Washington; her parents, Cecil and Marie Kirkendoll; her stepfather, Creamer Hardrick; her husband, Ralph Grimes; her brothers, Cecil Joe Kirkendoll, Lawrence Kirkendoll, James Kirkendoll, John Kirkendoll, Clyde Hardwick, and Garnett Hardrick; and her sisters, Gracie Walker and Flora Crawford.
She is survived by her children: daughter Tammy Kirkendoll of Frederick, Oklahoma; sons Keith Washington and his wife Angelilita of Houston, Texas, Kenneth Washington of Clinton, Oklahoma, and Kent Williams of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her sisters Ruth Perry and her husband Toby of Frederick, Oklahoma, and Nancy Johnson of Evansville, Indiana; brothers Jessie Kirkendoll and his wife Vickie of Clinton, Oklahoma, and Anthony Hardwick and his wife Marsha of Wichita, Kansas; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Dorris’s funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Bethany Baptist Church, with Rev. Moreland officiating. Burial will follow at Clinton Cemetery, with services under the direction of Lee Hometown Funeral Home.
