A Mass of Christian Burial for Elvira (Vera) Griffith, 88, Clinton resident will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 9, 2026, in the St. Mary’ s Catholic Church officiated by Father Mandagiri Balaswamy. The burial will follow in the Stafford Cemetery under the direction of the Lee Hometown Funeral Home.
Elvira Laura Griffith was born February 4, 1938, to Espiridion and Elvira Cerda. Borrego in Poth, TX and passed away early Monday, April 6, 2026, in the River Valley Nursing Home in Clinton, OK.
Vera was raised in Poth, TX where she graduated high school. While attending high school she was active in basketball and participated in beauty pageants.
Soon after high school she was married to Clifford Dean Weichel in San Antonio, TX and they made their home on the Weichel family farm west of Clinton. She was employed with the First National Bank as a secretary, Legal Secretary for Legal Aide of Western Oklahoma and later as a teacher’s assistant for Clinton Public Schools. Her husband was killed in an airplane accident in 1974. She continued her education and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
She later married Harold Luther Griffith in Las Vegas, NV and they made their home in Clinton as well. Mr. Griffith was a crop duster, and she was his receptionist and bookkeeper. The couple operated the Clinton Airport for several years. He preceded in death.
She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, she enjoyed traveling.
She has been in failing health for the past five years and had made her homes at the Homestead assisted Living Center and the River Valley Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert and two brothers, Joe Borrego and Manuel Borrego.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Weichel and wife, Janet, Clinton, OK and Jim Weichel and wife, Kristen: brother, Al Borrego and wife, Vicki, Edinburg, TX.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Victoria Scoville and husband, Caleb, Anna-Kate Owen and husband, Carter and Griff Weichel and a special friend and caregiver, Michelle Flores.
