James Meade Thompson, 72, of Clinton, Oklahoma, passed away early Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Clinton Regional Hospital.
James was born February 20, 1954, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He spent his younger years in Nebraska before moving with his family to Stockton, California, where he completed his education. Shortly after high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later transferred to the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, James worked as a welder, traveling across the United States throughout his career.In 1998, he settled in Clinton, Oklahoma, where he made his home and community. He worked for the First Christian Church and later for the City of Clinton, retiring in 2010.
He married Shelly O'esta July 7, 1999 in Childress, TX.
James enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors, and playing with his dog, Frankie. He especially cherished time with his grandson, Arlo, who loved his papa.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jo Eberly; his sister, Anne Thompson; and his father-in-law, Larry Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Shelly Thompson, of the home; three daughters, Michelle Lingle of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Hayley Thompson of Oklahoma City, and McKenna McMullin and husband Tanner of Oklahoma City; his father, Stan Jose, of AZ, his sister, Rayma Kukus; and his brothers John and David, both of California, and three grandchildren, Arlo McMullin, Lauren Lingle, and Zachery Lingle.
By his request there will be no formal funeral service.
