Jewel Alice McBrayer

Jewel Alice McBrayer, age 85, lifelong Clinton resident, was born October 28, 1940, to Bob and Carrie (Frederick) Lister and passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in Oklahoma City.

Jewel was raised in Clinton and attended Clinton Schools. Throughout her working years, she was employed as a housekeeper at the Clinton VA Center, Methodist Nursing Home, and Highland Park Nursing Home.

She married Charles McBrayer, in this union they had 4 children, Later her and Frankie Lee Adair had five children.

Jewel enjoyed the simple things in life and especially loved spending time with her family. She loved playing Bingo, going to the casino, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed crossword and word-search puzzles, never liked to miss her daily soap operas, and could often be found watching old black-and-white westerns.

She also loved to cook and was especially famous among her family for her banana pudding. Jewel had a personality all her own—she was known for never holding anything back, always keeping it real, and letting you know exactly what was on her mind. She also treasured having coffee with her siblings, catching up on everything going on, and, of course, sharing a little family gossip.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Carrie Lister; both of her husbands, Charles McBrayer and Frankie Lee Adair; two daughters, Verna Kaye Riles and Pricilla McBrayer; her sisters, Bertha Evans, Leora Bell, Bernice Greyson, and Myrtle Thompson; and her brothers, Billy Joe Lister, Norman Lister, Honey Lister, and Robert Lister.

Jewel is survived by her sons, Andrew McBrayer of Clinton, Charles McBrayer of Clinton, Gary Adair of Clinton, and Timothy McBrayer of Oklahoma City; her daughters, Patricia Carter of Clinton, Sherry Adair-Booker and husband Lovey of Clinton, and Sheila Washington and husband Andre of Clinton; and her sister, Dolly Hayes of El Reno.

Her legacy also lives on through eight grandchildren whom she lovingly helped raise and nurtured as her own: AJ,Tawana, Princess, Trisha, Sharie, Cherrell, Terence, Torrance, and Desire. Jewel's family extended through generations, and she is also survived by a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless others whose lives were touched by her love.

Funeral services for Jewel will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September 25, 2026, at Bethany Baptist Church. A private burial will be held in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Lee Hometown Funeral Home.
