Funeral services for John Deck “JD” Travis, 94, of Clinton, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00PM, Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Chapel Hill Methodist Church, southeast of Clinton.
"JD" was born September 24, 1931, to Gordon Elbert Travis and Selma (Sigle) Travis on the family home place southeast of Clinton, Oklahoma. He passed away early Sunday, March15, 2026, at his home on the family farm.
"JD" was raised in Clinton, attended Clinton schools, and was very active in FFA in high school achieving Junior Master Farmer and was inducted into the Clinton FFA Hall of Fame as an American Farmer in 1951. Following high school graduation in 1948, he attended Oklahoma State University before returning home to begin his career in farming. He was united in marriage to LuElla Buffing in 1950 in Clinton. He was drafted into the United Sate Army during the Korean Conflict in 1953. He was trained as a wire lineman and served on the east coast before receiving an honorable discharge and returning home in 1955.
During his farming career he raised F-1 Certified Brahmin cattle, had a custom hay business and was a great “thinker” known for his inventive mindset.
In addition to farming, "JD" worked for Keil & Schmidt Construction Company in Cordell and
Gallup Construction Company in Stratford, OK, as a revered welder, mechanic and heavy equipment operator.
He married Wanda Raimer on March 1, 1972. They made their home on the family farm. Wanda passed in October of 2020.
JD had a special knack and was known for his dry wit and sense of humor.
He was a lifelong member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church and faithfully helped maintain the Chapel Hill Cemetery for many years. In addition he was head usher and attended the First United Methodist of Clinton for many years. After retiring from farming, JD enjoyed gardening, often sharing his abundant harvest with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Johnny Don Travis; a sister, Ruth Ann
Gauger; and a stepson, Glenn Watson also wife Wanda Travis.
"JD" is survived by his son, Deck Travis and wife Linda of Conway, Arkansas; his daughter
D’Lese Travis of Weatherford, stepdaughter, Sharon Watson-White and husband Wiley of Norman, the mother of his children, LuElla Lingenfelter of Conway, Arkansas, and brother- in-law Randal Gauger.
He is also survived by three grandchildren, J. Dillon Green and wife Amanda, Emily Travis-Hahn and husband Matt, step grandson Chris Watson; and great-grandchildren, Mad’lynn “Maddy” Green, JD Green, Asher Hahn, and Lilah Hahn. He is further survived by cousins, Larry Goyer and wife Carol, Gary Goyer, and wife Shelah.
The family has suggested memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Hill Methodist Church c/o 22854 E.1040 Rd. Clinton Ok 73601.
