Kyra Rutledge, age 36, a Weatherford resident, was born July 28, 1989, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Emerson Rutledge and Cheryl Sankadota, and passed away Sunday, December 28, 2025, in Oklahoma City.
Kyra was raised in Weatherford and attended Weatherford Public Schools until her junior and senior years, when she moved and later graduated from Geary High School with the Class of 2007. Following high school, she furthered her education at Vo-Tech in Burns Flat.
Kyra devoted her career to caring for others and worked as a Certified Medical Assistant at several facilities in Weatherford, including Corn Heritage Village, Alterra Hospice House, and Weatherwood of Weatherford. Her compassion, patience, and gentle spirit were evident in the care she provided to both residents and coworkers.
A faithful and active member of the Weatherford Indian Baptist Church, Kyra’s life reflected her love for family, community, and tradition. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family and caring for elders, a role she took great pride in. Kyra also loved attending powwows and honoring her Native heritage, which remained an important part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Emerson Rutledge; her grandfather, Jasper Sankadota Jr.; her great-grandparents, Belva Hicks and Jay Gould; and her great-grandparents, Jasper Jr. and Etheline Sankadota.
Kyra is survived by her mother, Cheryl Sankadota of Weatherford; her grandmother, Lula Sankadota of Weatherford; her sons, Erin Blindey and William Blindey, both of Weatherford; and Evin Pewo of Anadarko. She is also survived by her sisters, Tiffany Sleeper of El Reno and Montoya Rutledge of Clinton; her brothers, Tanner Sankadota of Weatherford, Robert Sleeper Jr. of Anadarko, and Amick Sleeper of Tulsa; her uncle, Jasper Sankadota III; her aunts, Cathy Sankadota, Kristy Warledo, and Mariah Sankadota; and her special aunts, Sarah Medellin, Mitzi Sutton, Deehita Satepauhoodle-Ruiz, Melinda Goose, and Gari Bates, along with many other relatives and friends.
A traditional wake will be held Thursday, January 1, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Weatherford Indian Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Weatherford Indian Baptist Church, with Jerry Parnicher and Jay Mule officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Weatherford.
