Lawrence Leon Sitting Bear

Lawrence Leon Sitting Bear, age 65, of Weatherford, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Clinton Therapy Center. He was born December 5, 1959, in Rosebud, South Dakota, to Leonard and Carolyn (Flood) Sitting Bear.

Lawrence was raised in Rosebud and graduated from Todd County High School with the Class of 1978. Following graduation, he moved to Denver, Colorado, where he began working in construction. In 1982, he met and married Wannie Whiteshield, and in 1985, following the birth of their daughter, he attended truck driving school and began a long career as a truck driver.

In 1989, Lawrence and his family made Weatherford their home. Throughout the years, he continued to work hard, often commuting between Weatherford and Denver to serve as a highway flagger for the State of Colorado.

Lawrence was a talented artist who loved to draw and create beadwork. He also enjoyed carpentry, watching movies with his family, and taking trips to the casino with Wannie. His creativity, humor, and gentle nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Carolyn Sitting Bear.

Survivors include his wife, Wannie Sitting Bear of the home; his daughters, Sara Whiteshield, Lauren Whiteshield, Tiffani Sitting Bear, and Sharyl Sitting Bear, all of Weatherford; and seven grandchildren, all of Weatherford.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford, with Gerald Panana officiating. Services are under the direction of Lee Hometown Funeral Home.
