Mary Truanne Gritts

Mary Truanne Gritts, age 77, longtime Butler resident, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Mary was born on May 19, 1948, in Lodi, California, to George and Laverne (Morgan) Gritts Jr.

She was raised in Northern California and attended school in Stockton. A dedicated homemaker and farmer’s wife for many years, Mary later relocated to Butler, Oklahoma, 17 years ago to be closer to family and for medical care. After moving to Oklahoma, she worked for several years at the LaQuinta Inn in Elk City, where she was known for her strong work ethic and friendly demeanor.

Mary had a lifelong love of the outdoors. In her younger years, she spent much of her time on the water, water skiing, and camping—activities that brought her great joy. In her later years, she took pride in keeping a beautiful yard and was well known around her neighborhood for always being out mowing and tending to her lawn. She also loved to read and cherished quiet moments with a good book.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Laverne Gritts, and her sister, Margaret Teague.

Mary is survived by her son, Charles Campbell of Butler; her siblings: Robin Robina Rosas and Sandy Barrett, both of Elk City, and Leon Gritts of Stockton, California; her grandson, Benjamin Campbell of Galt, California; and nieces Deanna Teague, Debbie Armstrong and husband Sid of Clinton, and Samantha Garcia of Elk City.

In accordance with her wishes, Mary will be cremated and no formal services will be held.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lee Hometown Funeral Home of Clinton, Oklahoma.
