Butler, Oklahoma

Funeral services for Nada Laverne Baker, age 97, longtime Butler resident, will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 15, 2026, in the Hyman Memorial Chapel, located in the Lee Hometown Funeral Home, with Rev. Bill Smithey officiating. Burial will follow in the Butler Cemetery, under the direction of the Lee Hometown Funeral Home.

Nada was born August 31, 1929, in Mangum, Oklahoma, to Yuell “Y.W.” Washington and Mattie Lena Odell Roper. She passed away Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Baptist Village Assisted Living Center in Elk City, Oklahoma.

Nada spent her early childhood in the Mangum area before moving with her family to a farm approximately ten miles north of Butler. She attended Butler Public Schools and graduated from Butler High School in 1947. On August 12, 1948, she married the love of her life, Glenard Baker, in Wheeler, Texas. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2010, building a life centered around their family, farming, and the community they loved.

Nada was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who worked alongside Glenard and embraced the responsibilities of farm life. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and took great pride in caring for her family. In addition to being a hardworking farmer's wife, Nada owned and operated a beauty shop with her sister-in-law, Denise, where she enjoyed visiting with customers and building friendships.

A true cowgirl at heart, Nada had a special love for horses and the country way of life. She was also wonderfully creative and enjoyed making just about every kind of craft imaginable. Whether she was sewing, creating something by hand, or working on a new project, Nada always seemed to have something to keep her busy. She was an active member of the local sewing group in Butler, where she enjoyed the fellowship and friendships of other ladies in the community.

Nada was a faithful member of the Butler Baptist Church, and her faith and love for others were important parts of her life.

One of Nada's greatest joys was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved following her grandchildren to their many sporting events and could often be found in the stands, proudly cheering them on. No matter the sport or the distance, she enjoyed being there to support them and share in their accomplishments. Those special moments became treasured memories for both Nada and her family.

Nada and Glenard also shared a love for traveling to the mountains. Their annual summer trips were something they looked forward to, giving them time to enjoy the beautiful scenery, relax, and make lasting memories together.

Above all, Nada will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was devoted to her family. Her hardworking spirit, creativity, love of horses, and the countless memories she created will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenard Baker, in 2010; her parents, Y.W. and Lena Roper; her sisters, Letha Dupree, Oneda Glasscock, and Artie Fay Smith; and her brothers, Vaundle Roper, Elvin Roper, Jay T. Roper, Arie Wayne Roper, LuDon Roper, and Vernon Roper.

Nada is survived by her four sons, Roy Baker and his wife, Oleta, of Elk City; Albert Baker and his wife, Lisa, of Leedey; Carl Baker and his wife, Lori, of Longdale; and Gary Baker and his wife, Leesa, of Butler.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ryan Baker, Brian Baker, Lacy Crompton, Julie Rogers, Megan Flinn, Blaine Baker, Blake Baker, Stephanie Baker, Stephanie Young, and Anessa Baldwin; her great-grandchildren, Colton Baker, Easton Baker, Luke Crompton, Lane Baker, Andrew Baker, Baylee Jo Flinn, Adalynn Rhea Rogers, Barrett Baker, Ellis Baker, and Callan Baker; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
