Neatha Lewis

October 28, 1927 — July 19, 2025

Clinton

Neatha (Wells) Lewis, age 97, of Clinton, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Homestead of Clinton. She was born October 28, 1927, in Gracemont, Oklahoma, to Green T. and Mattie Lou (Gaston) Wells.

Neatha was raised in Anadarko, where she graduated from Anadarko High School in 1940. Shortly after graduation, she began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone, where she dedicated 38 years of service. She witnessed and adapted to the major transition when SW Bell became AT&T. Over the course of her career, she worked in Anadarko, Duncan, and eventually Lawton, commuting during her final year before retiring in 1978.

On December 6, 1947, she married the love of her life, Alford Lewis. The couple shared a beautiful life together rooted in faith, family, and friendship. Neatha was a devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Duncan and cherished her fellowship there.

She loved cross-stitching, collecting bird figurines, reading Birds and Blooms magazine, and tending to her roses. Known for her hospitality and warmth, she made a point to greet everyone at the front door of Homestead with a friendly wave. In her younger years, she was famous among her family for her chocolate pies and fried quail at family gatherings. She always made holidays and birthdays special—sending cards lined with sticks of Juicy Fruit gum to her nieces and nephews and gifting cozy pajamas and fuzzy slippers each Christmas.

Neatha was also part of a close-knit group of friends who met often for lunch—seven ladies who shared decades of laughter and life together. She was never afraid to speak her mind, and her straightforward spirit endeared her to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Green and Mattie Wells; her husband, Alford Lewis; her sister, Venita Thornhill; brother-in-law, Glenn Thornhill; her nephew, Keith Thornhill; a niece, Glenna Thornhill; and a great-nephew, Casey Owens.

She is survived by her nieces:

  • Maureen Radke and her husband James of Clinton,
    1. Their children Joe Radke and his daughter Avery of Anchorage, Alaska;
    2. Kristi Cisneros and her husband Adam of Arapaho, and their children Valek, Zade, and Acelyn Cisneros, all of Arapaho;

  • Twila Owens and her husband Joe of Woodward,
    1. Their daughter Alyssa DeVine and husband Dillon, and their children Jody, Rylie and Miles DeVine, all of Woodward.
    2. Great niece in law Tessa Owens, and children Charlie and Stevie.

Her great-nephews and nieces include:

  • Joe Radke (son of James and Maureen) and his daughter Avery of Anchorage, Alaska;
  • Kristi Cisneros (daughter of James and Maureen) and her husband Adam of Arapaho, and their children Valek, Zade, and Acelyn Cisneros, all of Arapaho;
  • Mary Thornhill (niece-in-law), and her daughter Hali Cooper and husband Ty of Moore;
  • Jason Thornhill and his wife Carmen, and their sons Gavin and Jayce Thornhill, all of Yukon.
