Richard Leon Morrison Jr

June 9, 1948 — June 10, 2025

Clinton, Oklahoma

Richard Leon Morrison Jr., 77, a proud resident of the Clinton Veterans Center and a devoted veteran, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Clinton VA Center.

Born on June 9, 1948, in Oklahoma City to Richard and Opal (Anderson) Morrison Sr., Richard Leon Morrison Jr. was raised in the Oklahoma City area. After graduating in 1966, he answered the call of duty by joining the US Army during the Vietnam Era, a service that underscored his lifelong dedication to his country.

Richard  had a claim to fame. He wrote the popular Mathis Brothers Jingle that is still used today. He also played piano and keyboard. He was known for a witty sense of humor that came across as almost childlike, and he was a sly bingo aficionado. He would also often attend church services. And carried a knowing kindness that few in our world ever grasp. Even when he could no longer ambulate, he could move at very amusing speeds in a wheelchair. He would grab a rail and sling himself down the hallways with the greatest of ease and dexterity.

Throughout his life, Richard was known for his steadfast commitment, the warmth of his character, and the deep sense of camaraderie he fostered among his fellow veterans and friends at the Clinton Veterans Center. His service to his nation and community left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the Hyman Memorial Chapel, located in the Lee Hometown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Union Hatchett Cemetery, with Bowman Vowell officiating the service, all under the careful direction of the Lee Hometown Funeral Home.

Richard Leon Morrison Jr. is survived by his extended family of friends and his cherished Clinton Veterans Center family, whose memories and shared bonds will keep his spirit alive. His legacy of service, honor, and steadfast friendship will be remembered and honored by all whose lives he touched.
