Richard Vaughn Pewo

Richard Vaughn Pewo was born in Clinton, OK on September 26, 1957 to Edwin Pewo and Irene Goose.

He was raised in the Hammon, OK area until he was around 13, before moving to California to live with his mother for approximately 3 years. He then returned to Hammon where he attended school. Upon leaving school, he ventured out on his own, where he met and married the love of his life, Samie Curtis, in 1982. They remained together until his untimely death. From that union, he raised three sons, Shannon Curtis, Virgil Curtis, and Augustine Curtis, along with one daughter, Elaine Curtis. He also had one daughter from a previous relationship, Della Jolene.

Richard was an extremely talented artist, with a special interest in giving tattoos. He loved the L.A. Lakers, camping, fishing, traveling, taking long drives and listening to music.

Richard is preceded in death by his father Edwin Pewo, mother Irene Goose, brother Edwin Pewo, two sisters Evelyn Gayle Highwalker and Johnnie Sue Greeley, and daughter Elaine Curtis.

He is survived by his mother, Margie Pewo of Hammon, OK, daughter Della Pewo of El Reno, OK, wife Sammie Curtis of Clinton, OK, three sons Shannon Curtis of Clinon, OK, Virgil Curtis of OKC, OK, Augustine Curtis of Clinton, OK, three brothers, Bennie Highwalker of Minneapolis, MN, Tyrone Pewo and wife Loris of Hammon, OK, Kenneth Pewo of Hammon, OK, four sisters, Virgina Williams and husband Boyd of Elk City, OK, Edwina Bullcoming and husband Wilbur of Hammon, OK, Kimberly Kauley of OKC, OK, Pollie Goodman and husband John of Byron, MN, and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

For over three decades, our family has been seeking answers about his whereabouts. Now that we have definitive knowledge of his location, we can finally lay him to rest and commence the closure and grieving process. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

A Graveside service for Richard will be 3:30 P.M. Friday, April 4, 2025 at the Hammon Mennonite Cemetery. Services under the direction of the Lee Hometown Funeral Home, and Dolan Ivy will officiate the graveside.
