Toby Jon Standing Bird

Toby Jon Standing Bird, age 65, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, formerly of Clinton, was born March 19, 1961, in Denver, Colorado, to Roger Reynolds and Janice Prairiechief-Oldcrow. He passed away Thursday, September 3, 2026, at his home in Albuquerque.

Toby was raised in Clinton and attended schools in Clinton and Hammon. He later attended Indian Southern Plains (ISP) School, graduating in 1978.

Toby dedicated many years of his life to law enforcement, serving as a Navajo Tribal Police Officer. During his career, he was promoted to Detective and Criminal Investigator, positions he proudly held while continuing to serve his community. Following his retirement from law enforcement, he continued his career with another 15 years with the BIA Land and Trust in Albuquerque. He also worked for six years as a diesel mechanic. His mechanical skills stayed with him throughout his life, and he enjoyed working on his own vehicles as well as helping friends with theirs.

Toby enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved deer hunting. He was proud of the deer he harvested, including two that remain mounted on the walls of his home, and he would process his own deer to provide meat for later. He also enjoyed traveling, with Las Vegas being one of his favorite destinations.

His traditional way of life was very important to him. Toby participated in traditional Seiling/Cheyenne Sundance ceremonies and was a member of  the Dog Soldier Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Reynolds and Janice Prairiechief-Oldcrow; his brothers, Alvin Rush Reynolds and Tony Kim Reynolds; and his sisters, Barbara Ann Reynolds and JoAnn Reynolds.

Toby is survived by his children, T.J., Tiffany, and Kaitlin; his sister, Angeline Reynolds-Lime of Clinton; his brother, Sheldon Ray Reynolds of El Reno; and his special aunt, Viola Hines, many beloved nieces, and nephews, as well as other extended family members and friends.

A traditional all-night wake will begin at 7:00 PM Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Clinton ERC Building.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the Clinton ERC Building, with Rev. Gerald Panana and Rev. Mona Bearshield officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinton Indian Cemetery.
