Viola Rose Creswell
July 7, 1938 – May 23, 2025
Viola Rose Creswell, 86, longtime resident of Clinton, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Weatherford Regional Hospital.
Viola was born on July 25, 1938, in Roscoe, Texas, to John and Mary (Kuss) Roemisch. She was raised in Hermleigh, Texas, and graduated from Hermleigh High School with the Class of 1956. On August 16, 1958, she married the love of her life, Roy “Mert” Creswell, in Snyder, Texas. Their life together was a true partnership—moving from place to place while following work in the oil field, before settling in Clinton in 1978, where they made their forever home.
A devoted homemaker—a role she cherished deeply—Viola also held a variety of small jobs around Clinton, including a position at Bluck’s Studios. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a proud supporter of the Clinton community.
Viola had a true gift for gardening, especially her roses, which she nurtured with care and joy. She had a deep love for her cats and was a lifelong Elvis Presley fan, once even attending a concert and receiving an autograph from the King himself before he rose to fame. Viola and Mert were longtime members of the Clinton Round-Up Club and took great joy in participating in the annual rodeo and parade. They were also members of the Hub City Squares and spent many evenings enjoying square dancing together. A passionate supporter of the Clinton Red Tornadoes football team, Viola rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on her town.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband Roy (Mert) Creswell; her parents John and Mary Roemisch; five brothers, Johnny Roemisch, Albert Joe Roemisch, Juluis Roemisch, Jimmie Roemisch, and an infant brother; three sisters, Dorothy Krejci, Annie Nora McCracken, and Evelyn Zalman. She is survived by her children Paula Mayes and her husband Steve of Hobbs, New Mexico, Steve Creswell and his wife Connie of Elk City, John Creswell and his wife Toni of Weatherford, Marla Hillburn and her husband Jeff of Coweta, Oklahoma; a sister, Lorene Warneke of Cohoma, Texas; eight grandchildren, Ashley Creswell, Kara Grantham, Shae Creswell, Brandon Mayes, Kyle Mayes, Erica Doan, Dillon Travis, and Derek Creswell; and eleven great-grandchildren, Dayton Ervin, Daron Ervin, Harlee Park, Avery Mayes, Diesel Mayes, Mason Mayes, John Doan, Caroline Creswell, Cliff Creswell, Eden and River Travis; and a host of other cousins and relatives.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to sincerely and gratefully thank Homestead of Weatherford, and the Weatherford Regional Hospital and all the caring staff. You made her passing so much more bearable.
