Wanda Louise Haunpo

Wanda Louise Haunpo, formerly Shelton, was born on April 27, 1953, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to Charles “Jack” and Rosetta (Austin) Shelton. She passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at her home in Roosevelt, Oklahoma.

Wanda was raised in Snyder, Oklahoma, and graduated from Snyder High School in 1970. She later attended Alladin Beauty College in Altus and also studied at the Technology Center in Carnegie. Wanda lived in southwest Oklahoma throughout her life and was proud to call the area home.

In her early years, Wanda worked as a hairdresser. She later began a career as a correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where she served until her retirement. Following retirement, Wanda continued caring for others through her work in home health. Her nurturing spirit and patient nature made her a natural caregiver.

Wanda loved gardening and caring for her plants, and she was known by many to have a true green thumb. She also enjoyed knitting, baking homemade bread, and spending time with her beloved dogs. Wanda will be remembered for her warm smile, her good spirits, and her ability to remain strong and positive even through difficult times. She was independent, patient, caring, and deeply loved by those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Rosetta Shelton; and her sister, Nita Kay Tibbs.

Wanda is survived by her sons, Scotty Lee Newman of the home in Roosevelt and Christopher Lee Newman and wife Amy of Wichita Falls, Texas; her daughter, Rebecca Ann Kendrick and husband Greg McKinney of Lawton; her sister, Margaret Smith of Roosevelt; her brother, Larry Shelton of Mustang; six grandchildren, Nick Arrington, Tiffany Perry, Amanda Molone, Dalten Newman, Kenzley McKinney, and Lyncoln McKinney; and three great-grandchildren, Kyzer Perry, Cooper Molone, and Avery Molone.

A Celebration of Life for Wanda will be held at a later date and will be announced when scheduled.

Services are under the direction of Lee Hometown Funeral Home.
